凯西·布莱克（Cassie Blake）曾是一名快乐平凡的年轻女孩，直到（有一天），她母亲艾米莉亚（Amelia）不幸在一场看上去像是“意外”的火灾中丧生。成为孤儿的凯西非常伤心，于是她搬去了华盛顿州一个叫“幸运港”（Chance Harbor）的美丽小镇，与她和蔼可亲，充满爱心的外婆简（Jane）一起生活。凯西的母亲在几年前就离开这个小镇，但那里的居民似乎非常了解凯西，甚至比她自己还要了解她。

正当凯西开始了解她的高中同学们——性格开朗，天性纯良的戴安娜（Diana）和她的帅气男友亚当（Adam），沉默寡言，性格孤僻的尼克（Nick），坏女孩飞（Faye）以及她的好朋友梅丽莎（Melissa）时，令人恐惧的怪事也随之发生。

当凯西的新朋友们告诉她，他们都是一群强大巫师们的后代，并来自于一个强大的巫师圈。他们一直在等待凯西的加盟，组成新一代“秘社”，凯西拒绝相信这一切。直到亚当教她如何解开她体内不可思议的神秘力量后，（凯西才开始相信这一切）。

但直到某天，凯西在母亲孩童时代住过的卧室里发现了一本古老的真皮咒语书，书中有她母亲留下的一条消息，看了消息的凯西这才明白了自己真实而又危险的命运。

而凯西和她的伙伴们还不知道的是，有一股黑暗力量也在蠢蠢欲动，这股力量也可能和镇上的成年人们（包括凯安娜的父亲和飞的母亲）有关，并且，凯西的母亲可能也并非死于一场意外。
